Aurelia Ella began as a simple question: what would it take to make a few days in the hills feel genuinely restful? Not busier, not grander — just calmer, warmer and easier to settle into.

The answer shaped everything here. Rooms face the valley rather than each other. Terraces are deep enough to actually sit on. Timber, cotton and stone were chosen because they age well and feel good under the hand. Nothing is loud, and nothing asks for your attention.

Rooted in the hill country

Kithal Ella sits above the town, where tea land gives way to forest and the cloud moves through in the early morning. We wanted a retreat that belonged to that landscape rather than sitting on top of it — low buildings, planting left where it was, and views framed instead of flattened.

Hospitality without ceremony

Our team is local, and the welcome is warm rather than formal. Ask for a walking route, a milder curry, or a table where nobody will find you: all three are equally reasonable requests.
