Diyaluma is among the highest waterfalls in Sri Lanka and makes a rewarding half- or full-day trip from the Ella area, usually by car or tuk-tuk via Wellawaya.
The base viewpoint is straightforward. Reaching the upper pools involves a steep, unshaded climb of roughly an hour on rough ground, and the pools sit directly above a very large drop. People have died here. If you go up, go with a local guide, stay well back from the lip, and do not attempt it in rain or fading light.
Start early to avoid the heat, and agree the return trip with your driver before you set off.
